GREATER LAFAYETTE CAREER ACADEMY
Hands-on training in simulated workspaces

Founded in 1855, the Lafayette School Corporation oversees 12 schools, ranging from grades K-12. With a growing population coupled with a demand for more classrooms, LSC collaborated with Cordogan Clark to develop a multi-million-dollar master plan.

Among the most important steps in the plan is establishing a Career Academy. The Academy provides hands-on training in simulated workspaces to prepare high school students for technical and trade jobs prior to graduating from high school. Courses and training at the Academy include career options that range from health science, information technology, Project Lead the Way, to culinary arts, to name a few.

LSC purchased a 94,000 SF building, formerly occupied by Lafayette Life Insurance, to be repurposed and renovated to accommodate the Academy. The project will be completed in two phases. The initial phase includes renovation of 60% of the two-story building. The main and lower levels will showcase classrooms and labs including an Advanced Manufacturing lab, Auto Service Technology classroom, an Agriculture classroom and much more. A new modern with inviting entry will welcome students into the academy. The future phase includes renovating the remaining 40% along with adding an additional 25,000 SF. Part of the phase also includes the installation of an energy efficient heating and cooling system to replace 60-year old equipment.
