MASTER PLANNING: Wuxi Transportation Center
Wuxi, China

This design for the Wuxi Transportation Center creates not only a distinguished urban gateway, but it is also an efficient transportation hub that enhances the surrounding urban fabric. Operational design makes it simple for passengers, visitors, and residents to navigate through the transportation hub and make connections, while the unique architecture creates a memorable landmark for the city.

The buildings that form the Wuxi Transportation Center allow easy identification of the Center. Towers flank the east and west ends of the site, while the commercial and hotel towers are located in the center of the development. Buildings in the transportation center are joined together to form streets and squares, creating the impression of a "city in a park."

The individual architecture is efficient in function and in energy usage. Sustainable or "green" architecture features, such as solar energy collectors, geothermal heating and cooling systems, and wind-powered electrical generators, are incorporated into the buildings as distinctive, meaningful design features. The heights of the buildings are varied to optimize views and to maximize the amount of daylight received, thus reducing the need for artificial energy and lighting. These sustainable building technologies are integrated into the efficient transportation hub to create this transportation center of iconic, sustainable architecture.
