Designed for a close friend and patron of collaborative artists the Zhou Brothers, this museum-residence is nestled within the tree-lined streets of Palo Alto, California. As both a response and reaction to local zoning requirements and neighborhood homogeneity, the geometry of the museum-residence is defined by the spatial limits set by zoning ordinances, but simultaneously breaks this monotony through a bold use of color and material mixtures.

Both inspired by and designed to house the art of the Zhou Brothers, the panels of the residence are cast with their original work, which serves to personalize and bring intimacy of scale to the building. Though the majority of the house is opaque in order to address its dual role of museum, the main entry vestibule is a centrally located glass volume, which acts as a transitional zone connecting interior and exterior space, public and semi-private space.

With a bronze ceremonial door designed by the Zhou Brothers themselves, the museum-residence strikes a distinctive pose amongst its well-reared ranch-style neighbors, bringing vibrancy and energy to the neighborhood.
