West George Condominiums and Retail development is an extensive remodeling of an addition to a nineteenth century structure in a moderately dense urban neighborhood. This remodeling dramatically transforms the old structure into a tripartite composition that respects the city and its cultural heritage. The development features large custom floor plans and large terraces above a parking and retail/commercial base. This updates a traditional urban typology. This adaptable reuse of existing masonry structures benefits from the texture and weight of the existing 14" thick loadbearing masonry wall construction: Uneconomical to build new, yet economical to reuse. This project highlights Cordogan, Clark and Associates' concern with appropriate adaptable reuse and sustainability.
