St. John the Baptist Church

Des Plains , Illinois

In 1999, St. John the Baptist Church in Des Plaines selected Cordogan, Clark and Associates to provide master planning services for an expansion project which updates, improves and maximizes the use of the facility in response to the growth of the needs of the parish. Currently in the design phase, this project reflects a continuation of the original ideas with regard to expansion and context. Louis Cordogan designed the original structure over 30 years ago. Now his son John Cordogan, with his firm Cordogan Clark, and Associates, will complete the master planning and expansion project.

St. John the Baptist Church, a 35,000 square foot church, school and community center facility, reflects the aesthetic and spiritual goals of its congregation. It is a combination of contemporary lines and space combined with traditional church architecture, materials and detailing. The facility contains a 500 seat church sanctuary, 200-seat chapel, gymnasium and community meeting room, as well as an elementary parochial school. The timeless design of the structure has met ministerial, educational and community goals since its dedication in 1972. Its expansion and redesign will meet Church needs for the new millennium.
