Our Savior Lutheran Church

Aurora, Illinois

Our Savior Lutheran Church, a stately gothic stone church nestled in a residential neighborhood of Aurora, is enjoying a renewal of mission to its community. The growing congregation requires new program space and the restoration of existing chapel and sanctuary spaces. It also requires additional site space to transition from on-street parking to on-site programming and for outdoor ministry spaces. The steeply sloping city block permits multiple uses and interesting site orientations. It also poses challenges in meeting accessibility requirements for both the existing facility and the new 14,000 S.F. addition. The program includes:

Separate Young Adult Center _Church outreach office_ Expanded sanctuary seating_ Music ensemble space_ Group meeting/foyer spaces, kitchens and multipurpose room_ Seven Sunday/day school classrooms_ On site parking for 50 cars_ Meditation and teen programming spaces

The architecture of the new addition, while contextual with the existing gothic stone building, incorporates newer technologies including solar heating and state of the art food service as well as technology components.
