MUNICIPAL
Municipal Fire Stations
Aurora, Illinois
Cordogan, Clark and Associates has completed four new fire stations for the City of Aurora.
Designed as classic three-bay firehouses, Fire Stations Nos. 5, 9, 10, and 12 carefully meet the functional goals of the Aurora Fire Department. Internal activities and equipment are focused on the central apparatus floors. Living quarters and dining areas flank the sides of each station. This functional arrangement proves highly efficient. These stations provide an attractive and effective municipal image. With their pitched tile shingle roofs and red brick exteriors, they are new municipal landmarks for Aurora.
Naperville Fire Stations - Planning for the future, the Naperville FD engaged CCA to design their newest Fire Station #9 with focus on EMS, Hazmat, and Homeland Security response methodology. Emphasis on security, firefighter/EMT was paramount and separation of equipment, public services and operations was considered crucial to the design development. Station 9 is viewd as a platform for future stations in Naperville with Station 10 anticipated to begin in 2006.
Site challenges included construction on an "infill" parcel of an existing city service campuses which required that all existing city services remain active and available during construction of the new station. This included 25' deep force mains and pumping station, water dept. access, public meeting space access, etc.
