HOSPITALITY
Stolp Island
Redevelopment
Aurora, Illinois
Cordogan, Clark and Associates was commissioned by the City of Aurora to design and engineer two square blocks of parking structures with commercial and office facilities at street level. This development includes a 175,000 square foot parking and retail facility incorporating 350 parking spaces, with retail and restaurant facilities, and a newly constructed landscaped riverwalk. CCA prepared the architectural and engineering drawings for this facility, and is the architect for the tenant buildout as well.
Designed to be contextually compatible with historically significant existing G.A.R. Hall located immediately adjacent, Stolp Island Place is executed in buff-colored cast stone which matches the color of the indigenous Batavia limestone used for this building. It features three corner towers and gradually tapered monumental columns reminiscent of the Gothic Revival architecture of the Granddaughters of the American Revolution Hall. Decorative medallions adorn columns and spandrels.
Also included in this project are cashier and storage spaces. The cashier stations are electronically monitored at the nearby Aurora City Hall offices. Cordogan, Clark and Associates is fully experienced with the design of these ancillary functions, as well as with the planning and design of the internal circulation of parking facilities.
