Waubonsee Community
College Expansion
Aurora, Illinois
Cordogan, Clark and Associates was commissioned to design Waubonsee Community College's campus extension. This facility houses four medical office tenants: Hospital's Home Health Care; Eye Retina Surgery; Copley Hospital; and the Naperville Children's Clinic. The Copley Hospital tenancy includes an extensive clinical laboratory, computer, and retail space.
Second floor classrooms in this building accommodate nursing and biology classrooms and three laboratories for computer technology and off-site distance learning. The computer distance-learning laboratory allows the facility to function as a campus extension by providing student access to the main campus on-line.
One of the goals of the design of the facility was to complement the adjacent Copley hospital. The design creates a memorable sense of place for its suburban site.
The aluminum and glass curtain wall system adds to the contemporary styling of the exterior while providing abundant natural light to interior classrooms, offices and public space areas. The building centers on a central two-story atrium core with a glass dome and circular rotunda.
In addition to the Aurora campus extension, Waubonsee Community College commissioned Cordogan, Clark and Associates to renovate its 40,000 square foot downtown Aurora campus. This renovation included additional classrooms, offices and computer laboratories.
