Aurora University Institute for Collaboration

Aurora, Illinois

Cordogan, Clark and Associates designed the new Institute for Collaboration in Education and Health Services; an innovative educational facility that combines the University's education, nursing and social work students.

The University received a $10M Federal Grant to expand its innovative partnership with the West Aurora School District. Since 1997, about 100 West Aurora fourth graders have gone to school on the Aurora University campus, which gives them access to University facilities and provides real-world experience. AU students are placed into West grade school classrooms as early as their freshman year, giving them at least four years of hands-on experience before becoming full-fledged teachers.

Institute for Collaboration in Education - Auditorium
The 500 seat multipurpose Concert Hall is centrally located on the campus. This positions it as the main hall for university events as well as public functions. Acoustically designed as a Concert Hall, it is also be used as an Auditorium for lectures and special events. The fully glazed end wall behind the proscenium provides views of the campus from the main hall. The acoustics of the concert hall are designed so they can be regulated and altered to modify its acoustical brightness. Special perimeter treatment in the hall was chosen for its acoustic mass and bass reflectivity.
